Verse 1

जय त्वं देवि चामुण्डे जय भूतापहारिणि ।
जय सर्वगते देवि कालरात्रि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥१॥
  • जय = win
  • त्वम् = you
  • देवि = o goddess
  • चामुण्डे = o chamunda
  • जय = win
  • भूत-अपहारिणि = Oh afflication-remover => Remover of Worldly Afflictions and Sorrows
  • जय = Victory
  • सर्व-गते = oh all-going => oh Present in All Beings
  • काल-रात्रि = oh dark-night => oh kalaratri
  • नमः = salutations
  • अस्तु = let it be
  • ते = To you
Victory to You, O Devi Chamunda, Victory to You Who are the Remover of Worldly Afflictions and Sorrows,
Victory to You O Devi, Who are Present in All Beings; Salutations to You, O Devi Kalaratri (a form of Devi Durga, literally means the Dark Night

O Devi, Please Make me Full with Knowledge, Please Make me Full with Glory and Please Make me Full with the attributes of Lakshmi (Beauty and Prosperity). O Devi, Please Grant me (Spiritual) Beauty, Please Grant me (Spiritual) Victory, Please Grant me (Spiritual) Glory and Please Destroy my (Inner) Enemies.
